I recently spent a wonderful evening at Desert Botanical Garden enjoying the cool evening air, taking some photos and finding some inspiration amongst the cactus and garden sculptures. The staff was busy decorating the trees with white lights for the holiday season, this brought a nice glow to my smile and put me in a dreamy holiday mood while strolling around the garden.
The desert was definitely alive with vibrant colors and textures at every turn. Here is a handful of the photos that I snapped, enjoy.
This past week I was sorting through the staggering number of photos on my phone, organizing during some downtime. I came across hundreds of my two cats, so I took a moment to zoom in and admire their faces. I noticed that many had an interesting blur to them, a dizzy mix of whiskers, fur, ears and eyes… A somewhat creative type of blur showing their quick movements. For some reason this motion blur brought me back to those very moments when I took the photos, I couldn’t help but smile!
I have been busy transferring my art to a new surface, iPhone Cases and Skins! So far I have 10 transferred and have a few more in the works. It’s exciting to know that people are walking around with my art protecting their phones! The cases are very minimalistic and add very little bulk to the phone but with my art they add a lot of color. The top and bottom of the case is mostly open so there is no problem plugging in chargers and adapters.
Right now through Sunday April 01 2012 all of my cases and skins include free shipping worldwide!
Skins are $15.00, Cases are $35.00
I have some artistic changes in the works to start off a great New Year! First I have a new company name: Drizzle to Rain Fine Arts. I also have a new signature name, I will now sign all my work with my full name of Patrickcollin; this is a true representation of my artistic side.
With the New Year I will also be releasing a completely new and redesigned website. After months of hard work, new photos and learning some HTML it is just about ready to release.
Over the years I have had many customers ask questions about me as an artist. They asked what inspires me, how I feel when I paint, what emotions I go through… my new site delves into my life as an artist, it is professional yet personable, allowing you to follow me through my creative process. Most importantly it is full of original art and art prints to view and purchase.
Here is a piece that I recently finished for my dear friend Dora and her family. She asked me if I could paint a sandstone of her little Chihuahua named Chiquita. Now I’m really picky when it comes to custom work, I really have to like the subject and if they have a photo of something they would like painted, it has to be a really great shot.
You wouldn’t believe the photos people want me to paint. A nice little old lady contacted me once and asked me to paint her cat, wonderful I thought I like cats have two myself. When I saw the photo I thought O’boy this is not good. The photo was taken from about 10 feet away of a cat curled up in a ball sleeping. I thought does she want me to paint the couch, lamp, wall hangings and the rest of the rooms decor as well… I hate to disappoint and art is about translation and creativity, so I got creative and painted her cat, she was very happy and commented that it looked just like her cat.
Well Dora didn’t disappoint me and provided a great shot of her Chiquita. She must have gotten way down to Chihuahua level and snapped off a great photo for me to go by.
Dora and her family were thrilled with the results, and I was thrilled to create a work of art that they will enjoy forever!

Autumn is here, leaves are changing to beautiful colors, falling to the ground, drying and recycling back into the earth. Although here in the desert its not as dramatic as the higher climates, most of the native desert trees have very tiny leaves and cactus really do not change much at all. October is my favorite time of year. A cool down after a long summers heat, shorter days and longer nights. Something that I enjoy since I’m more of a night person. My creativity starts to flow good around 10 PM. I’m also particular to fall colors, burnt orange, deep red and bright yellow. All can be found in every corner of my home.
Enjoy Natures beautiful show before a long winters rest.
Here is a new video that I send out to Art Galleries as a promotional piece. This along with a flyer, PowerPoint presentation or sometimes just the video to keep it a bit simple. Currently working on another video of just my canvas paintings and then one as a mix of both sandstone creations and canvas paintings.
I have learned that galleries are bombarded with submissions so I burn my presentation to DVD so that they can view it when and where they choose. Emails tend to get lost in spam filters, a busy day and basically just deleting unneeded emails to keep up. It’s always nice that they have something tangible, even it they throw it on the desk, they will come back to it eventually, even if it’s during cleaning. They may say “well I remember this, lets see what it’s all about”.
